I can’t believe this has such a low rating. The instrumentals give the album this really dark, gritty and almost sophisticated atmosphere that makes it easy to immerse yourself into the music. It sounds like the soundtrack to a 70s exploitation film. I suppose it can become a bit monotonous after a while, the skits are rather pointless, and WSG can only rap about coke and jewelry for so long before it becomes boring, but other than that, it’s great. The first song I heard was the title track, and I thought finally kanye had stopped with the bullshit, and was ready to release a serious project. Unfortunately, the title track is the only song on the album that isn’t unfinished or riddled with errors. Everything sounds so off, and Kanye sounds stiff almost, for the duration of the album. It’s fun, but not really what I was expecting. The singles are really the only standouts on this album. Denzel carried the album for the most part, and Ferg had some fun verses. The instrumentals vary massively throughout, songs like The Scythe, and Phony fit the Memphis Rap aesthetic Denzel is going for, (or at least I thought he was going for), whereas You Ain’t Gonna Lie, is vaguely witch house in some aspects.
