My Top 5 Favorite Patti Smith Albums
The sound and interests of the band were evolving and the radio play was more present than ever. Some people might dislike this musical direction but I dont think it was bad for them, even considering that I dont really like a couple of tracks but that has to do a bit more with the songwriting.
Ive never been a fan of "Till Victory", "We Three" and "Space Monkey". Im not even going to talk about the unlisted, infamous song cause I understand where shes coming from but its just a NO from me.
In the other hand, the other tracks are fantastic for me. "The 25ft floor" + "High in Rebellion" tracks are incredible and basically full on rock bangers, "Because the night" its such a radio hit that from the first play, years ago, I was like this is just perfectly written to be popular AND good.
The lyrics on "Privilege" are classic thought provoking moments for her discography, "Ghost Dance" creates this beautiful and meditative atmosphere and "Easter" almost does the same but with a western religion angle.
In general the themes live up to the title cause theres a ton of reflections and questions about the christian god, his work, his love, his duty as a father to all, etc.
