The Otals - 夏のルール4 (and The Rules of Summer 4)

An extremely solid collection of songs from the four artists featured on this. Standouts for me were definitely The Otals and Beachside Talks, though the latter only included one new original song for this project. Doer's sound is definitely an acquired taste, and liked their songs, given a few listens.

PAS TASTA - GRAND POP

The heavier incorporation of guitar into their songs just makes so much sense, they sound amazing. The feature list also goes hard, getting a feature from someone who did openings for JJK and Bleach is CRAZY.

Sometimes you just randomly stumble across a song done by some Japanese shoegaze band with female vocals, and it just sounds like the most magical thing you've heard ever.

How is the B-side one of their best songs in their catalogue

yuzuha - Love Notes

A short & solid collection of pretty & catchy songs that spans different styles, some hyper pop-focused while some are guitar-centric. Standout tracks include Jirachi, a glittering hyperpop song with breakbeat elements & Wonder Time, which incorporates jazz elements with swinging rhythms & pianos.

Favourites: Jirachi, GO, wonder time, CLICK ON U

TEMPLIME - POP-AID

This album, for the most part, is a feel-good one. While it is full of creative pop songs with many unique sounds, combining catchy guitar work with electronic sounds, some of these ideas don't stick the landing. Those that do though, are complete earworms. The vocals are also good across the board, with Toto's high vocal range & smooth tone complimenting the songs well.

Favourites: Tarinai, Melody Smash, Hiko, Ina, Suichu
Least Favourites: Umino Nioi

Super interesting production & the vocals are catchy, while still being experimental in the sounds used. The main point of interest here would be Jeter's vocals and how they are manipulated differently in each track. Though short in length, most of the tracks here are bangers, except for 'pp home session', which feels like a slog. It seems like Japan is keeping the hyperpop spirit alive, which is nice. Favourites: Flight to Mumbai, loloi, Deadpool, Tours pt. 2
