a pretty incredible record that needs some time.. i had to listen multiple times throughout my day to process all of it, and then i had to sit down with the lyrics and soak everything in for a final time. i think the storytelling and lyrics are really strong and have such a visual effect its amazing, and the harsh noise works really well narratively. tonight is a good enough catchy track in my opinion but is definitely the lowest point on the album storytelling wise and the general sound does ... read more

really really enjoyable with amazing production.. i love the vibe on this one and i think it encapsulates her entire discography really well. every song feels like something taken out of each of her other works with a new spin on it and i think it really works

Melanie Martinez and her schtick (during crybaby and k-12) has always rubbed me the wrong way, even when I was 9 years old and enjoyed her music to a certain extent. A lot of her lyrics felt infantilizing in the worst way; her songs that include nursery rhymes or use childlike motifs and metaphors for topics such as kidnapping or abusive controlling relationships made me uncomfortable. kimya dawson exceeds at writing charming and incredible personal albums that are filled with so much love and care. i really admire the fact that they're so raw; it makes me feel seen listening to her work and that means a lot to me. hidden vagenda is one of her most underrated in my opinion
