I'm pretty stunned by this release. What an eargasm of top shelf folk music. Her music reminds me a LOT of Weyes Blood in the best possible way. Mering's 2019 album Titanic Rising comes to mind immediately. This is rich and full of surprises.
Another incredibly overrated album by the users here. Weak vocals. Terrible lyrics. Awful production. No direction. (Literally all over the place with no idea what it wants to be.) I don't get it.
What an absolute joy to listen to. Is it revolutionary? Does it break new ground? Nope. But man, that was the most fun I've had listening to an album in a WHILE.
Like the movie Requiem for a Dream, I'm super glad I heard this but once was enough. I appreciate what they are doing here but at two hours it is absolutely exhausting to commit to. And maybe that's the point. I give it an 8/10 because it's genuinely great. But those missing 2 points are a direct result of it being the musical equivalent of drinking from a fire hose.
