lost a lot of the grittiness and angst the debut album had in favor of a more melodic sound that tends to make for a homogenized assortment of overall passable tunes.

i've actually grown to enjoy a lot of the songs individually (animal i have become, never too late, get out alive, over and over, time of dying, & gone forever) to where the overall album listening experience has developed into a bit of a guilty pleasure. one that i unabashedly revel in.
