for being a self-titled record, it lacks the immediate sense of identity records like Around the Fur or White Pony carried before it. and while that kind detracts from the replay value for me somewhat, the listening experience itself is a damn good one. it can be easy to overlook how consistent it is throughout and i find myself growing to like it more and more each listen.
its a regression in terms of what they we're putting out prior but still worth listening to.

something that ive really grown to appreciate with this album is how it utilizes odd time signatures throughout, making for an off kilter sound that has recently caught my ear. and the subtle usage of electronics really adds this extra sauce to the instrumentals. love just how dark this record is. underrated for sure!

okay so i may have some explaining to do. i dont know quite what it was but one day, i was going through different albums i wanted to listen to when the Deftones selftitled crossed my eye once more. it drew me in, and this time, it just all clicked. i fucking love this record. its their most raw record, with some of chino's best vocals ever; both in delivery, tone, and rhythm.
