I can’t help but feel like Cole himself didn’t have much choice in the sound of this. After signing to Roc Nation I feel like he was almost forced to make radio friendly songs. Still, this album had some pretty good songs, but also some pretty weak ones. Overall I think this is a stagnation era in J Cole’s career, kind of inconsistent throughout but we still get some quality tracks, which is why i’m feeling a 6.9/10.

Im starting to see a pattern with quadeca, a danny brown feature and a loud banger out of nowhere in the track list. But i could care less if the music continues to sound like this.
Such a beautiful and sprawling project that sinks you into its concept and doesn’t let you breathe until the end of the album.
