Evanescence's loss of personality was inevitable when they brought in Jordan Fish and Zakk Cervini to write this record. I was never a fan, but at least their semi-iconic Fallen has an identity. There is absolutely nothing that sets Sanctuary apart from any other modern metal band, and a lot of these riffs just sound recycled from these two writers' and producers' other works, like the new Poppy album. Couple that with the record being 49 damn minutes, this is truly unlistenable ... read more
hell yeah. Guilt Trip brings the heat on their new album. it's ever so slightly weaker than previous outing Severance but still an exciting offering of Crossover Metalcore. i love their pinch harmonics they just sound so cool with their tuning
Converge's worst since Jane Doe. this is really disappointing because Love is Not Enough is my favorite record by this band and here they are going in the opposite direction of that. instead this is something which i'm not even sure counts as Metalcore - more so sludgy post-hardcore to my ears. there are some good songs on this but overall it's kinda just okay, maybe decent at times. yeah so LINE won't get must hear but this one definitely will because AOTY loves pretentious ... read more
no idea what was going through their mind when they decided to rerecord this album but i guess i gotta listen to the original now
im pretty sure this score is as low as it is only because this album was made by BMTH. you know, a band that's now alt metal/pop rock. that said i cant say i disagree as this is pretty typical early deathcore - that is, it's boring and has shitty breakdowns. BMTH is the rare band that got less heavier but better over time
so raw and so trve. it's kinda boring like a lot of BM though lmao. sorry not sorry
it's a Cannibal Corpse album. you heard one of them, you've heard them all - especially in the Corpsegrinder era. speaking of who, he's so much better than Chris Barnes that it's almost funny. but yeah, this is one of their weaker works from what i've heard. this band's albums should be 30 minutes tops tbh
i've been waiting for Half Me to drop new material for so long that i stopped being a metalcore fan over these two years. and in that sense i am very underwhelmed with this new single as it is a significant step down from their last EP. no riffs, just chugging, with breakdowns that don't hit at all. also the new aesthetic is weird and doesn't suit them at all
some nice ripping war metal here. a bit repetitive and one-note but still decent shit, and it's trans fronted so thats cool
Why are the track ratings on this so low? I don't like this album a lot either but most OSDM records have their fans (this is at a 77/100 as well), so that's odd. anyway, Dark Recollections is a standard death metal album that's certainly of its time. i wish there was another band that made something I enjoyed as much as De Profundis by Vader or Dawn of Possession by Immolation
the dude behind this band told me "our music is ass". well uh, he wasn't far off i guess. it is pretty boring slam with a snare that gets annoying over prolonged periods of time and a pretty shitty vocal performance. but hey their vocalist is a transphobe and got fired for that reason. so hopefully this band makes better shit soon
i dont pay much attention to most new metalcore releases, but this one caught my eye purely for being self-described as "trans. vegan. straight edge." but as most other new revival material i found this unremarkable. i can only hope this review of mine shows this band to people who many enjoy it more than me
the most average slam that has ever been made. no idea how this is top 2 in the genre over on rym
Sanguisugabogg's worst, by a fairly significant margin. honestly this album just feels like an iteration on Tortured Whole except the good riffs are harder to find and overall the record sounds more hollow and lifeless. i might revisit some of the songs on here because i honestly did like Skin Cushion and some others too. but by the end i was waiting for it to end
>drops "demo #1"
>never releases anything else
this was odd to listen to because i can totally hear that the riffs are there but honestly i dont care about them. like sure the music is good but its nothing i havent heard before. barring the electronic sounds that dont add anything to the EP. its unremarkably remarkable or some shit like that
the crunch on this is real. the raw production is cool and all but overall it aint as great as their ep. i slightly prefer it over the other demo, however
compared to the EP it's middling. nothing "bad" per say but nothing interesting happened
death doom is far from my thing (which is why i'm only here via an album exchange) but this release is short enough to not be an issue. plus the first song has some pretty chunky riffs which stood out at least a little bit. still nothing i'd revisit though
welp, before Orbital Gate puts out her new "serious" LP, she drops a split with Vault on the first day of Pride Month. and to be fair i think her side is some of her best material, so fair enough. the vault side is slightly worse and the last song has some over the top vocals, but it's not bad by any means.
so yeah, happy pride to you all. give your queer friends money or something
