I like some of Harry Styles songs and have never found a project that was a home run from top to bottom. It’s still true but I think there’s something delightful to hear dance/funk from Styles. Now, a remix of this album would require Janelle Monáe, Of Montreal and Destin Conrad.
One of those instances where the listening environment impacts my attachment to the album. Yes. I was braving a sudden snowstorm. But these tracks were accompanying my journey from the grocery store to home. Dancey. Fascinating background. Yeah. Worth the listen. And now it's got a winter memory attached.
Defrosting. Contemplating. Different genres and experimenting with style. I'm here for it.
Sultry with tongue in cheek lyrics. Cozy up with this record and then check out the rest of her discography. Lennox remains one of my favorite artists to follow and see her growth since 2016.
You've found a new fan in me. I like how soothing this album is. Sad but sweet.
Grunge music that makes you feel like floating. Lost in space with familiar ideas and quiet rage. A container for exploration. Production goes so hard on "Queen of Nothing".
It's all over the place. That is a good thing. It's disjointed and experimental. I like that it's not a repetitive sound or message. There is a note of despair in the back half of the album. It's apt for January and the state of the world. Reminds me of Animal Collective's Feels/Sung Tongs.
Dreamy. Poetic. Love Japanese Breakfast 4eva.
You had to be there. This album saved me when my life went to shit (not rock bottom but close) but I had anthems to power my survival. Sometimes you need to shut up and listen to Beyoncé idc
I gave it another listen and it hits different as we approach the end of the year. Each track does serve the theme of this record, and I had a good time catching the references to other divas (Debbie Harry, The Supremes, Donna Summer and Madonna to name a few).
You can move to this album or sit and pick the production apart. A meticulous arrangement of techno, house, electronica, dance pop, synth and experimental elements. And Twigs uses different inflections in each track. When she holds back or lifts her voice up to heavens so that this music soars or sinks down to the grime. My ears love it.
