This album is like different flavours of shoegaze with vocals that massage my ears. Really cool project, just wish it was longer.
Its a project full of decent to good tracks but it feels like they were made for concerts and not for an album which was to be expected ig but i personally dont vibe with it that much. I dont dislike it but i feel like this is something you have to listen to with a crowd of people because otherwise itll get stale. Idk tho, maybe thats just me. On that note, i feel like these tracks rely heavily on their melodies or choruses, none of the rapping particularly impressed me.
I think what this album is going for is cool and i like the hindu sound, if thats the right term, but theres something about this project that is keeping me from loving it. Something about it doesnt feel cohesive to me and something about it is a little boring, I cant put my finger on what it is exactly though. I also cant say that i didnt enjoy this album but i dont think ill be coming back to it anytime soon. Maybe if i let it sit a little and then relisten something will click lol
By the time the next track plays, ive already forgotten everything about the previous track. Feel like that encapsulates what i think about this album.
Its a nice album but i feel it kinda drags a bit. Its like 40 mins long but it feels like about an hour and a half to me for some reason.
Had no expectations going into this and i came out pleasantly surprised. Very groovy songs that are all disntict enough from each other to not blend in or get boring. His vocals also work really well with this style of music imo. Will def be checking out his other work.
This album feels a little dull or maybe hollow is a better word. A lot of it is just keem talking about the bad shit thats happened in his life but it doesnt feel like theres a goal or like hes trying to get a point across. On the production side a lot of the songs are not that interesting. I do like the contrast between the intro track and casino, and i like the sample and melody on birds and the bees a lot. I was going to give this album a 75 but i feel that it gets a little worse and a ... read more
Metalically chatoic sound + french is something i didnt know i needed. Got some aya vibes from this too btw. Overall its a solid record that is very enjoyable to listen to.
Probably my favourie weeknd album. I prefer the michael jackson, 80s synth vibes of this album more than his other works plus its just so well crafted. I still have my problems with abel's writing but the songs are such bangers hat i can ignore that.
This album is like a 65 with a few tracks that are 80
Edit: those tracks that are 80 kept me coming back so much that the entire album actually grew on me.
Theres nothing of substance here. With the amount of short ass tracks its hard to create anything that isnt superficial but that being said, its not bad. Its one of those things where you just turn your brain off and listen for 40 minutes while doing something else. I didnt have any expectations for this since its my first joji album so im probably not as dissapointed as others lol.
This is my first time properly listening to a j cole album, front to back, no distractions and omg is it great.
