This may be the least pleasant album I've heard in the past few years. It is, without a doubt, my least favorite of 2017 so far. There are a handful of acceptable tracks here - the first 3 tracks really wouldn't feel out of place on a playlist alongside Knuckle Puck or Story of the Year. It's a mediocre at best pop song and that's about all there is to it. Maybe more interesting than Closer (not that that's really a thing to be proud of), but actually less catchy for me than Chainsmokers managed to be.
Rise Against manage to fart out a charged political punk album every two or three years, and while I recognize there's not been a huge evolution or progression of their musical style or lyrical content, I still enjoy the work that has come out. Having had the chance to see People Like You live twice, I must admit that my opinions on this album are colored by getting to hear their musical talent live. This isn't just a group of good musicians, this is absolutely a special conglomeration of talented artists, most of whom could easily succeed as solo musicians (and a few of whom have tried so).
