the year of dance pop? it certainly seems so because rochelle jordans ‚through the wall‘ is exactly that and more. alternative r&b? check. deep house? check.
this genre bending album is exactly that. genre bending.
combined with her vocals, this is a truly spiritual experience.
one word: perfecta.
on this album isabella lovestory explores the depths of human desire and does it flawlessly.
the sound, electropop with influences of latin trap and goth electronica, certainly supports her vision.
the aesthetic fits the sound as well.
however, lyrically it‘s too safe for her standards which is not necessarily a bad thing.
eu-sex-ua. does it have a meaning? not really. do we all know what it means? pretty sure.
fka twigs‘ studio album is a homage to rave/club culture and it shows. only she could make experimental songs like ‚drums of death‘ or ‚room of fools‘. both of those songs are the heart of ‚eusexua‘ to me. but it wouldn’t be a twigs album if there wasn’t some pain behind it. on ‚sticky‘ and ‚24h dog‘ we are exposed to very ... read more
now THIS is how you do a deluxe album! the name? genius. the cover? brilliant. i‘m more than satisfied.
the new songs ‚lotus‘, ‚i don‘t speak french‘, and especially ‚april‘ enhance the already very good base album. i wish the ‚music’ sample for ‚god is a dj’ would’ve cleared but then again it’s very expensive. furthermore the jade feature is a great touch. unfortunately some remixes are not as enhancing - but ... read more
rose gray, where do i start? congrats on probably releasing one of my favorite records this year. i want it louder, please. it‘s a brilliant dance pop album with vulnerable and real moments. it speaks to the people it‘s intended for. life can be messy, loud, and fast; but also beautiful. this album shows exactly that. from songs where you just wanna dance such as ‚wet & wild‘ and ‚party people’ to beautiful love songs such as ‚tectonic‘, ... read more
addison rae. a name that has been on everyone’s map since 2020. but not because of her music. that‘s ought to change. her debut album ‚addison‘ shows that she has done her homework and studied her predecessors; from the album cover to the production. her first single from this cycle ‚diet pepsi‘ introduced us to a completely different addison rae than we heard on ‚AR‘ back then. before she didn’t find her own sound but rather just repeated ... read more
oklou is not a new name for me. i have been listening to her since galore and thus to the singles from ‚choke enough‘. well executed alt pop with some career highlights such as ‚harvest sky‘ or blade bird. the sonic theme of the album is clear - sometimes too blending. overall this is probably one of my favorite projects this year.
the deluxe songs genuinely enhance her vision of the album without replicating what was done before. ‚viscus‘ with fka twigs is a perfect example of experimental bedroom pop. ‚what‘s good‘ is lyrically one of her best songs. ‚dance 2‘ is a really good soft club banger.
