Jennie please you were supposed to be the album that caught my eye
I’m so disappointed, this album has such a strong start but it just couldn’t pull all the way through to the end. I know this is gonna be flooded with toxic blinks eventually but seriously–I feel really underwhelmed,
Pre-publishing note: i really like how you can see the soul leave my body as I get towards the bottom of this album
like JENNIE started off strong catching me off guard with its loud confident hook which definitely got me reeled in to the album. It was probably one of the songs that piqued my interest from the highlight medley; really strong start.
Start a war wasn’t anything war starting worthy at all, just generic to be honest; not horrific.
Handlebars, more of that standard pop sound, but done right. Just really nice harmony and Dua Lipa’s vocal tone is always a bonus.
Always fuck with a song produced by Dem Jointz (INCOMINGGGG) this is right up Jennie’s alley–kinda repetitive but not bad.
MORE FUCKING DEM JOINTZ HELL YEAH–definitely one of the higher features off this album, Doechii’s (gimme chi give me purr) just hits DIFFERENT; really good flow from the both of them. Mantra’s been out for like 3 months now? Still repetitive for me imo but it’s nothing too bad
Love Hangover was the song that made me realize that this album was even coming out??? A good 5 points came from the really nice music video but also just not too bad–pre chorus is really nice.
ZEN–this was…something? I don’t really know what’s going on in this song, she was lowkey just panting with adlib for a quarter of the song. The song was super underwhelming and redeemed itself slightly in the final chorus; nice synth.
Damn Right just HAD to be a good song–you can’t just waste Donald Glover & Kali Uchis features. I honestly don’t know what sound I was expecting from this song but it isn’t bad–underwhelming maybe.
I really wanted this song to be the highlight of the album but it isn’t horrific.
F.T.S…? This was truly a whole bunch of nothing song–lyrics almost had a story? Really slow, really dull
The bottom of this album needs to be run through a mumbo jumbo Filter: More Dem Jointz but this song doesn’t add anything to the progressively underwhelming end of the album; very electro-pop
Seoul City… yeah
Starlight– got my hopes up for a few seconds but it’s just more repetitive choruses. I will not remember this night cause the bottom of this album left me in a daze that killed my vibe.
twin - really soothing farewell song to close out the album. No arguments to this song because it doesn’t sound like the rest of the album. No clue who this twin is but I’ll probably see it on tiktok.
Summary:
Honestly this album had a really strong start–which I was hoping would keep me hooked for the rest of the album. Unfortunately this just doesn’t resonate with me. I'm sorry.
Definitely enjoyed this album more than AMORTAGE or Alter-Ego but I was really hoping to pull through for an 80+ on this album.
