Good Kid - Summer
30

For almost a decade, Good Kid has been making the same thing (with Pox, Madeline and Ground being exceptions). I'm not surprised that this sounds like everything else because that's Good Kid's thing. If they want to dumb themselves down so they can pump out an EP every 6 months then there's no point listening to this because they've made better versions of this song before. Also hurts to know that live shows will be 30 minutes of the same sound, then occasionally Madeline at the end or ... read more

Good Kid - Break
20

Everything I said in my Bubbly review can be said here. The mixing of the drums is so shitty the grain on the hi-hat stands out from the rest of the kit that this almost feels like Good Kid is making their own St. Anger moment. I also don't know what's going on with the guitars, why is the rhythm so distorted, but the lead is clean? It feels like some members of GK want to play heavier but some don't. It feels like the band has clashing ideas of what their music wants to sound like. To make a ... read more

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - The Silver Cord
70

Since Made In Timeland, KGLW has been tampering with synths and keys. This experimentation would turn into the band's "Butterfly 3000" and eventually into "The Silver Cord." On one hand, it is incredible to see how far the band has been able to work on this type of sound, showing once again the band's skill and interest to make literally anything they feel like. But on the other, there are signs that KG could've worked on this a bit longer. There are two versions of ... read more

Good Kid - Bubbly

Bubbly shows off a current problem with Good Kid in that despite their success, they have no ideas on how to shape their sound into anything other than to make more of what they already have made. Bubbly shows signs that Good Kid is getting more predictable about the sound and the schedule of their music. For each of the 3 EPs, there has been a pattern of releasing 2/3rds of the EP as singles before giving us the full EP with a total of 2 extra songs. A pattern that seems to continue with this ... read more

Swans - The Beggar
85

While The Beggar is one of the slower Swans LPs the band has released, it rewards those who are patient with a compelling tale of Gira's struggle with death. It also feels like an end to Swans, whether it be that or an era. The 43-minute track is a collision of all the themes and sounds throughout the album, but that doesn't mean the rest the The Beggar is filler. Overall, a great album to reflect on. If this is the way Swans are going to end it, I'm not gonna complain. It's an ending I'm ... read more

Green Day - Saviors
55

While I don't think the album is offensive, I don't think it contains anything good (except for Dilema and Father to a Son.) Saviors feels like the album Green Day made because everyone agreed that Father of All was terrible. Production is a step up but doesn't feel great when songs get loud. Lyrics are also weak, containing the type of lyrics I would expect. Which is the perfect way I think I could describe this. It's something you can expect Green Day to release. But that doesn't mean it's ... read more
