Ruby was an emotional, unexpected journey. I didn’t know what to expect, but I walked away genuinely impressed by Jennie’s ability to blend intimacy, vulnerability, and edge across different moods.
Tracks like “Mantra” completely took me out — that bridge? Literal perfection. It’s the kind of song that lingers.
“Start a War” hit that perfect emotional pop note for me, with the kind of melody progression I always fall for.
I also loved how minimal and icy “Filter” was — such a sleek, stylish vibe.
Some tracks didn’t hit at all (“F.T.S.” was easily the weakest), and a few others felt a bit too safe or flat. But when she got it right — she really got it right.
“Starlight” honestly brought me close to tears with how dreamy and emotional it felt. And “Twin” closed things out with such heartbreaking, poetic lyricism — it captured the feeling of losing someone you once saw as a part of yourself, like a twin you never fully let go of.
As a whole, the production stood out. Even in the songs I didn’t love, I still appreciated the sonic world she built. I’d love to see her push more into those experimental, dreamy, or icy sounds in the future.
