everything that brings any kind of value to this album, such as the groove on babayka, the tempo shift in conflict, and the blasts on viking, can be found in just about every other prominent deathcore album being done way, way better, and the lows of this album are LOW. lift that shit is an embarrassing, gross manosphere song; behelit is awfully written, song 3 is unbearably generic.
a big contributor to slaughter's popularity is the appeal of alex's vocals, which i really ... read more
this is literally the only album i've ever actually cried to
album is fine on its own, but it doesn't really bring anything different from the first release into light. production is pretty bland, and the guitars feel less warm than those on the last album. again, the album is fine, it just isn't particularly interesting as a slowcore project. the inclusion of more ambient tracks is nice, but i don't find myself enjoying them nearly as much as i don't like mirrors' later ambient works.
pretty well-crafted album. every song sounds the same but i kinda like that about it; production is solid and overall, it's just a nice and soothing listen. no criticisms of the overall tracklist, i just think the tracks blend together a bit in a way that leaves every song pretty forgettable.
kinda fun album but thats the only good thing about it. the production is clean but i really just don't like how the guitars and kicks show up in the mix. alex is a pretty mediocre vocalist with boring highs and god awful clean singing, and a lot of the songs on this record just sound like they're trying to sound heavy and memorable and just end up being boring as fuck. i liked their first ep and misery sermon because they were (while generic) at least pretty fun deathcore projects, ... read more
YWGBYST is one of the most consistently abrasive, heavy, and angry records i've ever heard (with works like unsilent death and caustic being exceptions). it's short, it follows a formula, and every song manages to sound exactly the same in sonic elements while
having very diverse structure and instrumentals. bryan's vocals are more consistent than they've ever been on this record, and they sound fucking incredible. every note of the guitar and bass sounds like an explosion, ... read more
absolutely incredible album with not only the bleakest, most powerful lyrics i've ever heard, but the most despaired, pathetic sound and production i've ever seen in an album like this. songwriting is incredible, the high-energy post-punk highlights are fun and heavy, the vocals are absolutely incredible, and the imagery (both in the album's selected artwork, their lyrics, and in the book) is insanely soul crushing.
