kuru - Backstage hologram
70

this was my first time listening to kuru, and i originally thought this was your usual mid rage album, (plus a questionable triple-t bar). only 2 songs were added to my playlist on first listen, those being like glue and three worlds apart, because they sounded more interesting. but i did give the album another shot, and im glad i did. kuru’s voice finally clicked with me, and the flows and production sounded so much better. i will say that there is a miss though, and thats pray ... read more

vax - Blue Dawn
70

this is my first time listening to vax, and it was a pleasant surprise. great beats, memorable hooks, and fun flows. it really reminded me of half blood with the digicore elements and the transitions, but not as experimental. still a great album though, with a lot of replay value though. best song: the race. worst song: hit em up

Yeat - ADL

this was a slog. like a ton of yeat albums, it is long. but yeat usually back those up with some interesting production, flows, and voice inflections. this was mostly boring. its not horrible because there are a few songs with cool production like dangerous house and purpose central, but most of it sounds like the average mainstream rapper now. best song back home, worst song idek. i guess i'll choose taller

The Scythe - Strictly 4 The Scythe

i love denzel, i have MMESYF on my wall, but what was this. its not bad, but for denzel standards it is. no standout production or features, it really reminds me of the KOTMSV2's deluxe. also tan not having a verse from zel made me mad because tia and bk had some good verses, and the beat was decent. best song: phony. worst song: up

slayr - Half Blood (BloodLuxe)
90

i was like there's no way he'll top half blood, and he did. the original half blood's weaker songs felt kinda empty, and the transition from the sky to set in stone was mediocre. this deluxe fixed that issue. there was more experimentation in this album too with a few elements of EDM too. even though there are no bad or mid songs like the normal half blood, i have to choose brand new because its short. best song: toxic. worst song: brand new. this is my album of the year so far

Don Toliver - OCTANE
60

probably my favorite sound don has gone for throughout his career, and it probably has my favorite song from him on this project being k9. but he still adds 1/4 filler songs like most of his albums. if those songs were removed and the album was like 13 songs, this would be a much stronger project. best song: k9, worst song: body

A$AP Rocky - Don't Be Dumb
70

i can’t believe this album is actually real. almost an 8 year wait, but was this album worth the wait? i don’t think so, but that doesn’t mean this album is bad at all. don’t be dumb was all over the place, giving huge playlist vibes. ton of genres like memphis rap, west coast hip hop, rage, cloud rap, psych rock, jazz, and even industrial. but there were a couple songs where the performances and production choices were lackluster, those being playa and order of ... read more

Che - REST IN BASS: ENCORE
80

this is one of the best years for the underground fs. encore was an overall step up from the original rest in bass, which was already a good album. but it is more consistent, more experimental, and has better performances. this album is basically a less bloated version of psykotic, with deep voice inflections that clear carti’s. there’s songs like dirty sprite and uav which make you wanna ram your head into a wall, while there’s some pretty decent vocal performances on songs ... read more

"i think revengeseekerz is better, but people saying this hurts their ears while that doesn’t is wild. uav and serve da ba$$ are just as noisy as songs like dreamflasher and experimental skin"
