JPEGMAFIA's EXPERIMENTAL RAP is a project with two major sides, a side that is unexpected, and a side that feels telegraphed and expected in every way, and this makes it an inconsistent album with some really really standout tracks. This is not to its detriment as much as the inconsistency on Bando Stone is for Childish Gambino, but it is present and palpable. Overall, better than I expected, but Peggy needs for the life of him to stop talking shit and picking up one ... read more
would be a 100 if not for incorrectional officer
Life Is A Blowjob is generational
I have been listening to Lil Shine a lot in the past few months, and a new release is exactly what I needed. This album is a victory lap for an artist that is incredibly consistent already.
I lied, listened to this one too.
After listening to this, I think that the inspiration for I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU's sound peggy said he found in the vultures sessions was probably North West Demos. This project is really, surprisingly good. It is a bit rough around the edges but the fact that this is self-produced is insane, and I think that North, especially on Aishite and H0w Sh0uld ! f33l exhibits a lot of skill that can absolutely be honed further with time and practice. Rough ... read more
My second (and probably final) album of the early morning of May Day. Fantastic once again, will elaborate when not exhausted.
This album finds itself both overwhelming and somehow still minimalist at all of its best points. Consumerism, ironic consumption, and alienation present in contemporary culture is the lifeblood of this album, and the concept shows through in each and every song. This album finds itself in-between disturbing, distressing, and sorrowful (and only finding itself relishing in that aspect.) Body of Work is rough, gritty, and full of moments that made me sit back utterly blown away. Genuinely ... read more
I feel exactly the same about this as I feel about "Nirvana Reimagined As House and Techno," in that it feels unneeded and regressive more than it feels progressive. One of the best parts about Nine Inch Nails (and Nirvana, as I made the comparison to) is its timelessness and rough-around-the-edges feel. This record makes Nine Inch Nails new, sleek, noisy, and improved, and in that it loses what gives Nine Inch Nails its best qualities. It loses its timelessness in a buzz of EDM ... read more
fantastic project to come back with, especially considering how i just got into their work
how
also you did not have to say that slur on racist pos anthem to make a point i thought we were finally through this era and i think a lot of the political messaging is good but what the fuck dude
I fucking hate this album with all that I am.
As someone who enjoyed their debut project, zero_one, and listened to songs like 1000 Doors religiously while playing trouble in mineville and RDMing people, and who has a (because of this) deep emotional connection to The Living Tombstone, this is fucking awful. I cannot express enough that I am a communist, that I enjoy Rage Against The Machine, and their expressions of the leftist viewpoint in musical form, but this album is terrible both in ... read more
the fact that 3 years ago the ppl I gave an 83 and a 77 today made this fucking dogshit is so crazy
This album takes itself so unseriously and that’s its strength. The beats sound awesome, the lines are funny as hell, and the fun that was clearly had with this project is audible. Spider Gang is somehow reviving itself after years of straight dogshit and I’m all here for it.
