The lyricism is often fantastic, but occasionally veers on the side of repetitive, like Jarvis is trying to make his lyrics a caricature of his albeit fantastic stage presence.
"I Spy" is underrated.
I used to enjoy this album quite a bit, but it's decayed and "That's not me" particularly has become too grating to be enjoyable.
A profoundly nostalgic record. The songs sit in the moment that joy turns into memories. Energetic but reflective. I wish it had more of a following.
The band unfortunately split up more than a decade now, so I wonder if they look back at this record with the nostalgia I have for it...
88 for its sincerity and concision, even if there are some weaker songs.
Midnight is the greatest synthpop song of the 2010's. Much of the rest of the album is unfortunately boring, regardless of how much I enjoy its highs.
My favourite album of all time. How gracefully it encapsulates the feelings of teenage. When I listen to this album, it's fireworks. So much colour—raw highs and lows presented to us in poetry. I have yet to settle for more than a few listens on one particular favourite, but "The Louvre" and "Hard Feelings" are nostalgic and mature in a way that makes me feel like I've missed out on something.
What stops this from being a 102 is the (personally) grating beat ... read more
Yikes. Lowk cringe. Just because it's cohesive doesn't mean it's actually good. First three are alright, and I actually thought "CANCELLED!" was fine. Everything else forgettable.
I saw them live in Seoul two months ago. My thoughts are the same as the non-live album.
Young Man live hits different.
I watched them in Seoul 2 months ago. So ethereal, so nostalgic.
Sometimes their non-native english gets in the way of interesting lyrics, but by and large the sonic cohesion of this album and otherwise wistfulness of their works makes it my favourite album from 2024.
Favourites: Young Man, Aaannnnteeeeennnaaaaaa, Y
This is my favourite discovery of the year so far. What an impeccably lush voice. I haven't heard - literally ever - anything like it.
The "Be Kind", "Villain", "Unrest" string is the best three song run of the year so far. "Believer" is a very impressive closer too. Perhaps there is a bit of thematic drift in the centre of the album, but the sound stays cohesive and maintains its replayability for most of the album.
My favourite Spanish language album. Totally serene, utterly exquisite inclusion of Mexican folk ideas.
Favourite songs: De Todas las Flores, Maria la Curandera, Llevame Viento
"After Midnight" is groovy. Surprised how only one person has rated the album, it's not bad at all.
A few interesting songs (Parachute 😍) but I'm not quite understanding the hype. It drags a bit and could be a couple of tracks shorter without really damaging the album's message. Not particularly ground-breaking structurally either
