Argentinian trap artist is a wildly popular artist that is new to me and his new album is definitely better than it is getting credit for while also being flawed in many ways. Duki was originally a battle rapper, which usually lends itself to making pretty bad standalone music. For a battle rapper, his non-battle raps here actually are pretty decent, but sometimes you can hear some Eminem influence that doesn’t necessarily work well. The other obvious influence is Travis Scott, who you can tell is idolized in Duki’s vocal style and this album’s tracklist flow. Latin Trap music’s biggest pitfall is usually painfully dated and boring production - while some of the ideas on this project do fall into one or both of these categories, for an artist as major as Duki, I think the production was full of great ideas too - yes, oftentimes on the Travis Scott side of taste but not ideas beat into the ground. Does this album really stand out in the grand scheme of things? Sort of, but not really - it does trump a lot of Latin Trap I’ve heard recently but doesn’t really showcase the genre as very interesting compared to other Latin American rap-influenced genres
