Childish Gambino - "Awaken, My Love!"

A beautiful, soulful experience. The only song that somewhat took me out of it was California, but even then it was tolerable. This album does tell a story after all, and every story has a gross uncomfortable part to it.

There honestly isn't a whole lot to like here. It generally feels empty and boring, and when it's not that it's obnoxiously loud and autotuned. The only track i can realistically see myself going back to is Trying Not To Think About It, but even that may be a bit of a stretch. I much prefer Wilbur Soot's older works, as they have some actual character and real life to them, instead of the bland and generally unappealing sound this album has.

The order of them, too, with the loud and emotionally dense songs beautifully contrasted by the slower, more contemplative interludes perfectly encapsulate the vicious cycle of emotions. The ending track, too, is the cherry on top for this already incredible album that just brings everything together in a chorus of aggressive yet hopeful sound that just completes this ... read more

AJR - The Maybe Man

I'm so incredibly conflicted on this album because some of the songs and parts are so incredibly great, and others are just a drag and even grating on the ears. Songs like Touchy Feely Fool, The Dumb Song, and Hole in the Bottom of My Brain have such incredible character and great sound to them; while others like Turning Out Pt. iii and especially the second half of Inertia are nothing but a snoozefest. I also feel the cheesy overproduction shining through the cracks here a decent bit, but it's ... read more
