Superfly

Is Superfly the hardest an artist has ever gone for a film soundtrack? Almost definitely- YES. Whereas Mayfield's debut was a gorgeous swirl of blossoming strings and heartfelt calls to action, Superfly is, on the whole, about one core tenet- FUNK. Every damned second of this gorgeous record, even the loftier moments like Think, feel like they exude pure funk. Legitimately debatable as the cornerstone funk record of the 70s (barring Stevie Wonder ofc....), Super fly indeed
