Half Alive - Conditions of a Punk

I wouldn’t say this album is as punky as it is funky. Thank god this thing is good, I was a bit worried for these boys after that very strange rollout. Even though I didn’t dislike most of GMYS, it definitely didn’t hit as hard as Now, Not Yet, which is absolutely killer. Conditions of a Punk isn’t as good as their debut but I really like this sound that they have going on and even though the track list is long, most of the tracks felts fleshed out and I don’t ... read more
Joji - SMITHEREENS

I’m a pretty big fan of most of Nectar and a new Joji album was something I was highly anticipating this year. Glimpse of Us was a beautiful introduction to this album cycle and I’m glad that the project shared the energy of that song throughout. However, I truly wish it was at least another 20 minutes longer, as the 25 minute runtime is a little underwhelming. What does make up for it is the best production and singing from Joji thus far. I enjoy this album but I don’t know ... read more
Matt Watson - SEE YOU THERE

I’ve listened to OUCH! about a million times, so that on top of all of the singles got me very excited for Matt’s album. I’m happy to say that it lived up to my hype for it! The way that Matt’s musical talent has evolved since his EP dropped is super evident, but I love the way that the album feels rugged still. The toy instruments in the cover art are an accurate representation of a lot of the effects put on the real instruments used and I think that adds so much and ... read more
The Backseat Lovers - Waiting to Spill

I fell in love with the first release from The Backseat Lovers very recently, so I was very excited to hear they had another project dropping this year. It took me a good few listens to fully digest Waiting to Spill, but once I was able I fell just as in love with it as their first album. I really enjoy how raw this album feels throughout, and how different the production is from their first project. This is an awesome experience and I’ll be revisiting it for a long time.
Arctic Monkeys - The Car

This a damn solid album. Having only listened to AM and Favourite Worst Nightmare, I really didn’t know what I was getting into here, especially with the mixed things I had heard about their last release. This shit transported me to a different time. The sound is that of like old ballroom or school dance in the 1950’s and it’s magical. The singing is super smooth, the instrumental fits right in, and the production is stunning. Highly recommend this one, and I’ll have to ... read more
