Friko - Something Worth Waiting For
85

While maybe not as immediately iconic as the debut from Friko, Something Worth Waiting For was definitely just that. I absolutely love the energy that this Chicagoan indie rock group brings to the scene, with great lyrics and fun instrumentals. They have a bright future ahead and I'm all aboard the Friko Express

Harry Styles - Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally.
75

Disco? I don’t really think so, but goddamn those synths are killer. Harry sounds very good across the album, and while I think I enjoy the slower, more emotional driven tracks better on other records, this one really succeeds at those fun pop tracks that you’d expect from someone like Harry Styles. It’s a fun album that’ll I’ll probably be coming back to here and there for the rest of the year.

Mitski - Nothing's About to Happen to Me

This album feels like it'll be a grower. Whereas I really loved Mitski's last album upon my first listen, not everything on this one really stuck with me on first listen. 78

I don't care how repetitive the lyrical content may be on this record. As surface level and harmless as the lyrics are, I'm never really expecting anything deep and introspective from Bruno, he's a radio guy, he writes catchy-ass love songs, and I cannot deny how much I enjoy them.

Baby Keem - Ca$ino
83

5 long years after the promise of The Melodic Blue, 2 Phone Baby Keem has returned to us. Along with him, a very interesting mix of genre blending, flow switch-ups, and some honest to god singing. I am only one listen in, and while some of the lyrical work didn't do a lot for me, there were plenty of deep references to Keem's upbringing, and about where he's been these last few years that were honestly heartbreaking. I'll need more listens to truly understand how I feel ... read more
