Let me tell you what he felt was coming. It was After Hours. Sound of the track just feels like preview for After Hours.
Despite the score on this single here not changing that much, I think this song grew on people much more.
This song was a terrible choice to put out as a "leading single to the album". I'm drawing attention to the album part because if the album wasn't on the context with the release of this song, I think this song would have been kind of groundbreaking for The Weeknd because this is a sound that has probably never been heard from him.
But being one of the lead singles to ... read more
Very catchy, but corny. Would have been more pleasing if it didn't play everywhere during these times. But that's not a reason to deduct points, the biggest reason for me is Playboi Carti's inclusion in the song. It's just simply bad.
Probably the most generic of his synth-y songs to this date. Like he averaged all of those songs into one. Also the way it released feels like he released something left off from After Hours or Dawn FM because sounds basically no different that the synth-y songs from both of those albums, like I said, averaged.
There is so much going on in this album. It's processed to the smallest detail. Yet it's still pretty messy. This feels like one of those art structures made out of cans, plastics etc. Not to call anything trash here, it's easily far from it, but they way everything is put up on this, from the design of the album cover to naming/listing of the songs and to the songs themselves feels. A risky area to play at, when executed well, it can turn into something artsy like this; but when ... read more
This is a mess. There is potential, but falls very soulless. Production, with exclusion of some songs, is good to say the least. I surprisingly didn't find myself as negative with this album as most people did. Till the halfway point of the album the flow of the album in terms of sound goes pretty well, but that also falls apart hard after a point, and last song just doesn't belong here at all. In short, I wasn't as overwhelmed as I thought I would be, but I still wouldn't ... read more
If we were to seperate music history in ages, this would be a transition point to a new age.
I don't think Drake is on the level that we need to avoid and visibly hate his songs just because of the person he is. Certainly not someone that can be defended but not as hopeless as a certain person that somehow still around (you know who he is).
This is very well entertaining. It's not groundbreaking or very significant, and definetly not something that will revive Drake, in fact far from that. I haven't listened to the album, and honestly not planning to do so. I ... read more
This is the last Kendrick album that I listened, probably the fact that i listened this the last, and just rigth after TPAB raised my expectations too much that I don't get anything so memorable or amazing out of this. I know that setting TPAB as benchmark for basically anything islike expecting all eggs to be gold, but even with that I believe this goes to show that how much he has improved.
His skill of story telling definetly plays a role in this album's value, and even though I ... read more
From my experience I want to say that, this is not a project to come at with expectations, good or bad. Because whatever you're gonna expect will not happen. It's not designed to produce any hits, it's based all on emotions. It's its own unique thing.
Standouts: N95, We Cry Together, Purple Hearts, *Auntie Diaries*
A very strong collaboration, both commercially and in terms of musical potential, that after the halway point falls victim to being excessive and show-offy which ultimately butchers a lot of songs. This is a flex album. They rap about being at the top of the world, being rich, powerful etc. etc. But just as in real life, while this flexing goes hard till the halfway point of this album, especially with 3 bangers of 1st, 3rd and 4th tracks, it just becomes wacky and simply unbearble with some ... read more
Only 2 songs (BDKMV and Real) are hard for me to come by, can't get myself to like them much, other than that this is just top tier.
Always hearing the high praises for this album, I was a little scared to come to this. I only knew Wesley's Theory and Alright before listening to this album, and they both weren't that appealing to me. Now that I listened to it, I can say that this changed my perception of music forever, and now adore those 2 songs too. I understand why this is called the best album of all time.
