There is this tweet. I don't remember the username, but I remember the message very well. It said that if you can't proclaim your favorite artist has a bad album, you're not a fan. While there are holes in that message, I agree with it because the fanbase and stanning aspects of music have become an issue in critical analysis.
How does that relate to this album, or even thinking about that with Peggy? Some may say Peggy hasn't been good since Cornball, that he has a perfect ... read more
During the dead period earlier last year, I was randomly scrolling through the new releases and looking at the niche and obscure stuff, and then I saw the cover of the 20. Something about the cover caught my interest. I assumed it was lo-fi drum'n'bass and electronica. But when I got a nice introspective coming-of-age album that blends hyper-pop, indie pop, and pop rap. While it wasn't groundbreaking, I knew something about this artist was worth keeping an eye on. I never ... read more
I've been listening to music passionately since 2016, and whether you want to call me unc, go ahead. The point is that I've been part of the transition from physical media to streaming. I remember being there for both 4 Your Eyez Only and K.O.D. I remember with the Ladder album, teasing this concept of a fall-off album, and this album became the era version of Detox, where we wondered when it would happen. I don't have to repeat what led to this point, and I don't want to ... read more
Honestly, seeing R.A.P. Ferreira drop feels like a casual thing at this point. Not to discredit Ferreira, but he's been very consistent at this point, so I expect to find a takeaway, no matter what. But seeing the producer credit got my excitement; Kenny Segal has been on such a remarkable streak, whether it's him behind the board or his own solo music. However, it made me realize two things: it has been half a decade since they last worked together, and it has been ten years since ... read more
Listening to this new Kevin Abstract, I genuinely wondered what I would be thinking. The reason I state this is because I, like many people, had a big Brockhampton during their active era, and there were albums that I was nuts over, but once that era came to a messy end, my opinions changed throughout multiple projects. This mainly comes with Kevin's albums, and with Blanket, I saw this album just messy and just wearing the influence on its shelf, and felt like I might have grown out of ... read more
I woke up and scrolled social media to see a Stereogum article reporting that a surprise Skrillex album was not on my 2025 big. The more surprising part was that people were saying that it was good. I'm not one to dismiss Skrillex; I have strong nostalgia for that early dubstep period in my pre-teens. I was a fan of Quest For Fire, which felt like a massive collaboration with many electronic artists, whether new or old, active in the music scene. While Don't Get Too Close had minor ... read more
With post-rock as a sub-genre, there is a current kind of style that I enjoy, and when it can provide a transcending feeling towards me, whether it's relaxing or allows the music to provide the thematic element that the album provides. One of the issues with that genre is that I can see an appreciation towards the albums or bands, but I tend not to revisit them. Genuinely, Mogwai was within that category in which I remember certain conceptions or tracks standing out towards me, the album ... read more
Bad Bunny has been a musician I've kept an eye on since his three-album run in 2020. Not because much of those albums impressed me, but just because there have been some people I know that go crazy over his music, and throughout his music release I was wondering if there would be an album that clicked for me. There are a tiny number of tracks that I take away from each project but none that I tend to return to, but this new album is the one that finally clicked for me. This feels like an ... read more
I wasn't aware that Kinoteki has been doing this series recently, and as someone who has been a fan of his work for a bit of time, I can say this is their best solo work. The massive standout features and vocal samples stand out and provide a variety of highlights like The Fallen Angel Story and Lost at Sea. I would love to see where Kinoteki goes from here, but I'm impressed.
