In Contra, Vampire Weekend continue to exist on the line between being charming and annoying. White Sky with its' piercing wailing would be unlistenable in any other album, but here it is the track I repeat the most.
All in all this is a pretty good "sequel" album. It's Vampire Weekend, again, and if that's what you want, then that's what you're going to get. Can't help but feel like it's missing a couple more standouts though. Something like Campus/Oxford Comma/A-Punk would have helped this album to gain a bit more identity. Now it is sandwiched between their (supposedly, haven't listened yet) best album and their explosive debut and I'm left wondering where Contra is going to end up for me in the long run.
