Nothing particularly special, but heavy riffs + female vocalist automatically puts anything at a 60 for me, and the glitchy production dotted throughout easily puts this up. Some very catchy tracks that I find myself coming back to pretty often.

Had the pleasure of helping engineer a live recording of a couple tracks for these guys and the first thing I listened to afterwards was this album. I'm not usually a fan of folksy type music as I find it all feels the same, but the composition and production that went into this record elevates it above other similar albums. Very impressive songwriting - especially as each track is written solely by Sam. Very talented yet humble people, which I find is perfectly reflected in this ... read more
ILIIAITE takes everything I love about music and combines it into a single album. It's so, so heavy, with the truly guttural screams and deep, glitchy riffs of the title track and Red Room that just hit like no other band can manage. The atmospheric, shoegaze-y sound of Two-Way Mirror and A Sad Cartoon create such a beautiful instrumental for Kadeem and Erik's vocals to float above, and transports me to an ethereal scene with each listen. The ambience is dynamic and interesting, and ... read more
One of the first albums I ever listened to, and one I think is essential for everyone. This was such a big part of my childhood, and having shaped my taste in music in to what it is today it will also always be one of my favourites. From start to finish this album is raw emotion and has such an addicting energy that is never overbearing. An absolute masterpiece.

I love this album so so much, I just wish it was heavier throughout. The heavy parts are so good and there are so many places that would've benefitted from the same treatment rather than the whiny-pop-synth that can be heard instead. All of the different genres that Vessel and II bring into metal is a big reason I love them so much, but I don't think this album does that as well as TMBTE, with Gethsemane being a big contradiction to that statement. Despite those things, this record is ... read more

I was a big fan of Comedy before this album released, and so was quite surprised to hear the rest of the album doesn't really sound like it at all. It doesn't necessarily feel out of place, but I did expect to hear more chill jazz throughout. Regardless, this album is a really fun listen with lots of unexpected complexity in the composition, and really clear inspiration from hip-hop and r&b which I enjoyed. It can get a little much after a while - not something I would have on ... read more
Absolutely no notes. Static Dress have created the perfect showcase of their versatility from Attempt 8 to Courtney, just relax to Marisol - this album is raw, guttural emotion in all forms. A masterful combination of songwriting, composition, and production that you just can't find quite like this anywhere else. A 10/10 listen from start to finish, and is even more insane as a debut.
Top tracks: ...Maybe!!?, Marisol, Di-sinTer, such.a.shame, Courtney, just relax
My favourite album to come out of Japan, and definitely in my top 10 of all time. A perfect blend of dreamy vocal melodies, heavy drums and a range of guitar tones from atmospheric delay to a much heavier, grunge-y tone that create such an enticing energy through the record. This album knows exactly when to hit and when to fall back to ambience, which paired with such perfect emotional architecture throughout, makes this one of the most impactful listens on composition alone.
