Big Thief - Double Infinity
68

Double Infinity lacks the song-to-song variety that Dragon New Warm Mountain presented. Adrianne's voice and the overall pretty solid arrangements save what would otherwise be a batch of rather forgettable folk pieces, but this doesn't mean I'll be returning to them.

JID - God Does Like Ugly
65

JID brings nothing new to the table with this one, but it doesnt overstay its welcome.

Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper

EDIT: 100-->92

yea this is some of the best folktronica to come out of the last decade, and from a completely unexpected source. i kinda cant believe this shit is real, and with how lush and thick it all is im not bored even after several relistens. i have a feeling ill be replaying this one for years as a personal all-timer. thank you, quadeca.

Vylet Pony - Love & Ponystep
93

likely my album of the year. just wow.

the narrative this album weaves with its late 2000s/early 10s samples and its proud self-assuredness among them is incredibly impressive and is one of the best stories ive heard ever coming from an EDM project. i ended up really feeling for and loving this personification of Vylet's self doubt by the end of it. despite the album's constant callbacks and usages of classic dubstep tropes and stylings, there truly is nothing like this out there. ... read more

RANDOM ALBUM REVIEWS PT. 5

Disney Channel rock. Mushy production makes it difficult to pull any individual sounds apart from one another and the lyrics are as flavorful as salted white bread.

Kaiser Chiefs - Kaiser Chiefs' Easy Eighth Album

RANDOM ALBUM REVIEWS PT. 4

One of the most forgettable pieces of media I have ever had the displeasure of consuming, straying away from this only during the brief periods where it bravely dips its toes into what I consider "entirely unlistenable." My favorite example of this is at the end of track 4. Its only saving grace is that it was short.

Kanye West - BULLY [July Sampler]

nazi album. anything higher than 0 is a lie. the careers of everyone involved should be dead.

Panda Bear - Sinister Grift

what a nice throwback

Parachutes - Tree Roots

found this album on vinyl at a local thrift store in 2018 when i needed it most. it was january in the northern USA, so very cold and snowy. I'd just gotten off my shift at the nearby big chain coffee store. shit-ass job. my girlfriend at the time who i am still with was very into record collecting, and me being 17, i wanted to join her in that hobby whilst knowing nothing about it. i took my ass to the thrift, bought this vinyl specifically because it had a cool drawing of a dog on it and ... read more

RANDOM ALBUM REVIEWS PT. 3

This one is fun! Consistent upbeat bubbly project with some well-utilized choices of classic hip-hop samples. Doesn't stand out much from its other EDM contemporaries, but if you want a medium bite-sized electronic project to kill some time you could do with way worse.

RANDOM ALBUM REVIEWS PT. 1

I'm dimse and i listen to albums at random sometimes.

this album first off soars in its clear passion. lotus face didnt make something they didnt care about, even in its moments of overuse of swearing (particularly on the first few songs), and even if i didnt connect with or care for the lyrics much one thing here i actively disliked was the multiple short talking segments mentioning spotify specifically by name? breaks up the flow pretty bad and is honestly ... read more

key vs. locket - i felt like a sketch
86

was sent this by my gf who adored it fully. i didnt see what she saw in it but it still sounded fantastic.

Black Country, New Road - Forever Howlong
81

this will probably change upon my inevitable 3rd or 4th listen. two horses/nancy are some of my favorite songs theyve put out but overall i think this project lacks the oomph, the staying power, the x-factor that ants from up there had.

new vocalist fits in very well. i look forward to seeing her work even more cohesively with the band in the future.

cupcakKe - Cum Cake
71

cupakke's energy and writing on this are fantastic, with only a few dips in quality. the track order feels well thought out and works well. with the exception of the last track (lol) the raunchy songs work pretty well too. she knows how to make you laugh in one bar and feel in the next.

Ada Rook - UNKILLABLE ANGEL
83

this album took my wife, my other wife, and my other other wife. ada when u see this pls return them :[

Tunng - Love You All Over Again
69

pretty front-loaded. as much fun as i had with bits of this, it falls into inconsistency pretty fast.

samlrc - A Lonely Sinner
95

i found this a bit late but it became my favorite release of the year. whoops.

Skyzoo - Keep Me Company
60

nothin here to grab me. instrumentals are chill, writing/performances are alright. solid enough, idk. probably wont return.

"@sciencefairs it is a widely accepted fact that you can often do in music things you cant do in public. an example would be an emotionally striking album where a singer confesses their love for someone very poetically. in song form it may be great, but doing this to a group of strangers would be weird and potentially creepy. what are you genuinely talking about?"
On aury11's review of Vylet Pony - Love & Ponystep
"weird that all the reviews on your account are strictly negative but whatevs. the 'cringe' is the point. a significant portion of vylet's discography is dedicated to her unabashedly liking what she likes regardless of how those things are traditionally perceived by ppl online. feel however you want about the project, thats all well and good, but criticizing it by calling it cringe is just kinda the least effective and least helpful critique maybe ever especially toward an artist like her."
