Sometimes I feel like we give too much credit to bands that they would never fall into the same trappings of Pop. All because they simply make music for a comparatively niche genre like shoegaze and dream pop especially compared to pop. It ironically focuses more on replication rather than full originality and experimentation which is fine on its own as the music is quite moving but then there are moments where i feel so burnt out from the entire experience this album (and really lush) provides. It feels reiterative and downright plagirzing at worst in some instances.
I will admit when Lush goes slow like they did with Spooky, i immediately close my brain out. However, there are still incredible pieces like Light From A Dead Star, Blackout and Never-Never.
Then it just falls back into Cocteau Twins/The Sundays core content and it just feels like I'm listening to some crappy version of either of those bands. Its a remarkably cute album from certainly a group of people who love those bands but for me it just feels reiterative and somewhat bland. Its fun in certain aspects and even its most bland moments are rather enjoyable and preferable to other bands but I cannot give it a higher rating.
