Hi, sorry, I finally got the review written up for that EX-LYD record you sent me. I'll skip the intro-talk though, and just get right into it lol
Starting out with "Shamisen Lullaby", I just have to say: the synths are genuinely adorable. I don't know where they're sourced from, but they work wonders for this track. Which, even if it doesn't have a ton to say (not the craziest ideas being thrown on the wall here) still makes the most ... read more

Hey, I listened to the ROUND TABLE album you mentioned to me yesterday. I thought it was pretty good! It's cool to see the parallels between Japanese shibuya-kei artists and the 2000s/2010s Western pop acts that I'm more familiar with. They pick from a lot of the same influences, which tend to lean jazz/R&B/soul, with a little bit of dance-pop. The synths + strings on Dancin' All Night and the opener are super reminiscent of Carly Rae Jepsen and ... read more
GOD I FUCKING LOVE BASS I LOVE BASS UGHHHHHH FUCKING BASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
A little under two years since its release, and I'm still loving every second of this album.
This sophomore effort feels like a new breed of noise rock in the wake of trendsetters like Chat Pile, Daughters, and the like - with some heavy inspiration from the genre's greats of old. It's packed with these harsh, angsty, squealing riffs that I absolutely FUCK with. Not too dissonant to get annoying, but just enough to get a buzz going; in large part due to the juicy baselines. ... read more
The greatest visual album of all time.
Waves of overbearing synths, vibrant, plucked strings, and impassioned crashes of baroque piano spin the web that Quadeca uses to tell his story. The record's oceanic themes, injected into the heart of its dense, lush production, weld together each track into a once-in-a-lifetime listening experience like no other.
It's not every day you see an artist touch the bounds of a genre-- or, more accurately, push them-- but there's no doubt in ... read more
i'm so sorry nf/tom macdonald/eminem/mgk/random cringey-ass metalcore band/papa roach I'll never make fun of you again
A fun, cute little 22-minute LP that builds on the momentum Tinashe cultivated earlier this year. The subject matter is done well, making for an extremely satisfying listen front-to-back. I'm not a huge fan of R&B, but the vocal hooks and catchy production make this one of my favorite feel-good projects of the year.
Standout moments include the anxious electronics and percussion on "Getting No Sleep", the synth-y bass on "Cross That Line", and the backing piano on ... read more
The riffs are alright, the drumming is okay, and the solos are nice, but these guys are in their 70s and still talking about hookers and sex. What the fuck?
Some favorite lines:
"I could stop you in a heartbeat / That'll be appealing /'Cause I love to hear you squealing"
"I'm an old bushwhacker / Yodelling up the canyon"
"You got it, you're down and dirty / You're made for pleasure / The frame is frozen, you watch the birdie / You're made ... read more
I wasn't going to make a review on this but what the FUCK is the beat on "Copper Cove"???? You can literally hear it loop...
Oh, and the feature on it sucks ass too
YO THIS SHIT 'BOUT TO BLOW YOUR MOTHERFUCKING MIND!!!
*knock knock knock*
"Hey, Ian? You wanted to talk to me?" I said, standing at the doorstep of his Dallas apartment. No response. I stood there for a minute, then two, then five, then ten. Worried, I banged on the door again. "Ian? You good in there?" I couldn't believe it. Four flights of stairs and a 40-minute drive and he couldn't even be there to let me in? After the third or fourth thump, the door ... read more

HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE BEST WEDNESDAY EVER
...is what I thought.
On closer inspection, though, it seemed my expectations were a little... high. I should have expected that. The singles for this album never sold me as much as the ones on SCARING THE HOES or LP! did, not even close. But by "it's dark and hell is hot", I was coming to terms with the fact that this might be a miss-- that Peggy's short time in the sun these past few years was tragically coming to an end.

Superbly crafted, but lacks strong hooks or memorable melodies to match the intricate verses.
Don't get me wrong - the story in this album is presented fascinatingly, jazzy boom bap and all. But there's something... missing. I believe most of the fault for this lies in the vocals. Lupe, unfortunately, lacks the "flair" that many of his contemporaries have, and I think the choruses suffer as a result. The hook in "Mumble Rap", for instance, was just kind of... meh. ... read more
If "Life's A Gamble", this album makes me want to cash out.
Seriously. This album is just... terrible. The beats are genuinely HORRENDOUS, and the lyrics are beyond laughable (ex. "Ask my brothers, on my brothers, bitch I've been the backbone / Bitch, tryna call me like tryna call a saxophone", "I was broke, couldn't buy no waffle house, my pockets pregnant"). If it weren't for the goofy-ass ad-libs, I might not have made it through this one. ... read more
Saosin's 'Translating the Name' has proven to be a landmark EP in the early-2000s scene movement, through and through. It's a shot of pure adrenaline, incorporating many staples of post-hardcore, emo, and metalcore, and it has enough pop-sensibility to keep the listener firmly engaged-- one of the many reasons it's held up so well after nearly 20 years. With a runtime of only 15 minutes, you won't be met with any 6-minute ballads or lengthy breakdowns, but I assure ... read more
