Cecil Taylor has been on my radar for a while when it comes to free jazz and avant-garde experimental jazz, and this album definitely delivers. The first track, “Steps,” is wild, kicking off the album with a frenetic piano and sax interplay that’s both technical and chaotic. After that, tracks like “Enter, Evening” slow things down a bit with a mellower vibe, before the album picks up again with its intense energy. Even though the music thrives on free-form improvisation among the musicians, there’s a surprising sense of structure holding it together. This is one of those albums I’ll definitely revisit, as I can already tell it’s the kind that grows more rewarding with each listen.
