This is a very well produced French baroque pop album that showcases Gainsbourg’s unique style. One of the standout tracks for me is “Ford Mustang,” mainly because about 20 years ago, Mike Patton did a cover of it, which left an impression. Another track worth mentioning is “Bonnie and Clyde,” featuring Brigitte Bardot, who was involved with Gainsbourg romantically at the time. You can sense the chemistry between them on these tracks, and I can only imagine the seductive and intimate undertones in their lyrics. It’s clear they incorporated some deeper meanings, even if I can’t fully grasp the French. The album is definitely rooted in French pop, but it’s got an experimental and quirky sound that makes it distinct.
