J. Cole - BIRTHDAY BLIZZARD '26

99 BUILD IS THE BEST FREESTYLE I'VE EVER HEARD

Drake - HABIBTI
35

While this album presents itself as a sonically superior to that of Iceman and Maid of Honour, it still manages to fall flat due to its rampant misogynistic lines and its recycled song formats. From the Rusty Intro, Drake attempts his best Morgan Wallen impression that goes absolutely nowhere, making the listener immediately skip to WNBA, which is arguably a better song due its tight structure, nice melodies, and catchy hook with "playing like you in the WNBA." I find this song ... read more

Young Thug - UY SCUTI

Government-mandated CIA raps

Drake - MAID OF HONOUR
5

You put your mother on the cover and proceed to drop all ASS?

I was listening to Cheetah Print, thinking it could only go up from here, and holy shit did it tumble and roll into oblivion after that.

After suffering through ALL OF THAT, I was thinking that Princess should, AT THE VERY LEAST, end this album with a bang, and all we get is a rock record sounding like a B-side from Lil Wayne's Carter VI record.

This is horrible. Iceman is literally Illmatic compared to this.

Action Bronson - TRICERATOPS
95

TOLD HER I WANT ALL NECK JUST LIKE TYLER ROBINSON

Songs like this always have a warm fuzzy feeling like going to the park on a hot summer day or eating really good ice cream. This is definitely one of my favorite songs of this year. Just great verses all around (and yes, I'm ignoring that coming of age line)

Drake - ICEMAN
30

I know it's highly disingenuous to review something less than a day after it has dropped, but I felt I should give my initial thoughts on this record before seeing if anything changes during the following hour, day, week, or longer. But I also know no one's going to read all of this.

With all that out of the way, I listened to this album four times and I can confidently say that this Drake album is highly disappointing, but not for the usual reasons. I would factor the three biggest ... read more

EsDeeKid - Rebel
90

What EsDeeKid proves here is how one's accent can elevate their rapping ability. From songs like 4 Raws and LV Sandals, he manages to capture each vibe of the song while spitting in his Scouser accent. Personally, I think every song here is a hit aside from 5am, I just think that track is a bit slow but everything's nice. Definitely one of the best out right now.

Baby Keem - Ca$ino

I don't care. This album is perfect to me

A$AP Rocky - Don't Be Dumb
85

One of the most fun albums this year. Rocky actually surprised me with this one, every track is amazing aside from the title song. Take another 8 years if you want lol

J. Cole - The Fall-Off
85

Damn, this album is bittersweet. One of his best albums for sure, though. Just a beautiful capture of everything in J Cole's life thus far. If this is his final album, I'm sad to see him go.

Favs: Two Six, Safety, Run A Train, Poor Thang, Bunce Road Blues, WHO TF IZ U, Drum n Bass, The Let Out, and all of Disc 39 besides Quik Stop

EDIT:

I was tripping, Quik Stop is amazing! Only You and What If are the only head scratchers on the disc 2, might lower my rating to 85, but still a ... read more

Joey Bada$$ - Lonely At The Top
60

It's a good album, for sure. But considering the highs that Joey was riding off from his beef, I expected this to be better than 2000, at the very least. Some great songs on here, like Supaflee, Swank White (especially FlyGod's verse), and the closer, but I'm not sure, this album is just cool. I appreciate the influence of Norega and Jay-Z throughout the first half of this album, but it's still not enough to save this album from an underwhelming second half, especially 3 ... read more

JID - God Does Like Ugly
90

A spiritual awakening for JID with multiple references to Christianity using subtle biblical allusions that helped drive home the message behind this album, and referencing the album title altogether. While JID wasn't rapping about anything new, he helped drive home the point of systematic oppression in America, but also how many environments force a lot of people to partake in these things, demonstrating the "ugliness" behind all of it. Additionally, I think JID is saying that ... read more

Freddie Gibbs - Alfredo 2
95

We need to have a serious talk about Freddie Gibbs. After like 20 listens, this album is damn near perfect.

Track-by-Track breakdown

1995: SMOOTHH intro, I love the beat switch near the end, and everything. Kinda sounds how the album cover looks, like I'm about to be sat down.

Maralago: A nice continuation from the intro track, I love it a lot. Also, Alchemist gave me an IMMEDIATE stank face with this one. Had me sweating while I was in the car. That mighta been my blood pressure tho ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - DON'T TAP THE GLASS
70

Edit: Changed it to 70 from 75. It's a cool album, but I don't revisit it as much. Idk, it doesn't appeal to me after Stop Playing With Me

Really enjoyable album from Tyler, reminds me of CMIYGL a bit. Enjoyed the first half more than the second, especially Big Poe and Stop Playing With Me.

Freddie Gibbs - 1995

Smoothhhh. Amazing instrumental and great intro track. Can't wait to hear what the rest of this album sounds like. We're also getting JID and Paak???

JACKBOYS - JACKBOYS 2
50

Personally, this album has no sense of direction. I just felt like listening to a project where everyone in a group decided to submit their parts at different times and just left it as is. DUMBO is the best track since it sounds like a Utopia leftover, but everything else sounds so disorienting. In my opinion, if you're in your whip or at a club listening to this, you probably won't mind any of the songs. However, compared to the previous Jackboys installment, this is mid asl.

Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out
95

Updated it to 95

So far, album of the year!

Never have I heard a comeback that was so hungry and emotional since "Thank you 4 your service" by ATCQ.

From the emotional songs like "The Birds Don't Sing," where both artists, Pusha T and Malice, rap about their last memories with their parents and how it affected them in their own regard, to the more upbeat ones, such as Inglorious Bastards, which brings some of that classic Clipse energy back with Ab-liva. Wish Slim ... read more

Man, this new JID EP SLAPSSSSS. I listened about 20 times while on vacation, and I can confidently say, PLEASE DROP JID.

From the first track, Behold, JID got this energy that he carries throughout this album, and it has a little something for everyone. I like the line where he says, "You go be a broke bitch by yourself, I ain't Zion Williamson."

The second track with Yachty was also fireworks (fuck the fourth of july). I like the energy that they both exchanged, and to be ... read more

Offset - Bodies
80

I'm not the biggest fan of Offset due to his repetitive style, but he did his thing. JID carried per usual, and the sample fits the vibe of the song. Overall, a great track, and I can't wait for Mr. Route to drop the album in August
