One of the most underrated hip-hop albums to drop this year. It’s upbeat & catchy, & displays Kenny Mason’s diversity as a rapper, in a similar way to Baby Keem for me. JID & Paris Texas features compliment his style incredibly well.
Jane Remover letting her chaotic production skills take center stage by mashing up & sampling hits across various genres. Feels like a punch of nostalgia.
The Unown radio frequency sample on GET UGLY blows my mind.
If you didn’t know Ed O’Brien was a part of Radiohead going into this, you’ll notice quickly by the atmosphere the instrumentals create. They’re gorgeous, ambient & blend with the mellow vocals to a point where you don’t even notice they’re there at times, but in a good way. There’s a noticeable y2k rock switch up on the track ‘Teachers’ which is a cool mix-up at the midway point of the project. Though this album is only 7 tracks, it ... read more
This builds upon the EP fakemink dropped earlier this year & dives deeper into the eerie “terrified” theme of the record. The production done by mink himself is upbeat & fits perfectly with his signature pitched up vocals. The sonic cohesion of the record allows for songs to blend into one another almost seamlessly at times. This does make it difficult for tracks to stand out from one another at times, but I can’t say it ever lost my attention. Some of the longer ... read more
A solid Bladee album. It doesn’t have the highs of Cold Visions for me, but the production’s still fun & I love the mythological themes.
It’s one of Action Bronson’s best albums. Good production, cleaver wordplay, goofy topics, it’s all here & he’s dialed in. YOU HAVE NOW ENTERED PLANET FROG.
Interesting to see glaive in more of an indie rock atmosphere, it works well. I’m not as high on this as I was Y’all from last year, but it’s still great.
A perfect blend of experimental hip-hop, punk, & soul that allows the album to feel incredibly diverse from track to track. Narratively, this album challenges the current political state of our world through Owusu’s eyes; which makes sense with the punk rooted sound. This is the first Genesis Owusu album I’ve really tapped in to & I love it, very similar vibe to Paris Texas for me. It’s amazing, no skips, & is my album of the year to this point.
Brothers, Brian & Michael D’Addario, live as if they’re in the 60’s, both stylistically & through their music. It’s immediately obvious that they sound like The Beatles & the whole psych pop sound from that same period, just recreated in a modern setting. From the relatable lyrics, pop instrumentals, & catchy choruses, this album brings vibes that really uplift your spirits.
May be the quickest I’ve ever known an album is a 10 for me. I first listened to this a few years ago & it’s since become not only one of my favorite indie rock records of all time, but one of my favorite albums ever. I could listen to this forever & never get tired of it.
Basically dream pop bible. I often refer to this as my favorite album of all time. You can’t help but feel like you’re floating over the dreamlike soundscape & incredibly catchy choruses. It lives up to, & exceeds all of the hype.
A chaotic industrial/punk/hip-hop combination that’s very upbeat & energetic, but can quickly shift to dark & abrasive to the ear. I think I’d best describe the sound as the guy from The B-52s rapping like Death Grips over a Model/Actriz type beat. It’s weird, noisy, & not like anything else I’ve heard this year, fun as hell.
Old school hip-hop in a modern setting that’s incredibly well executed. Sharp bars, cool sample flips, & great features from top to bottom.
Wailing vocals paired with instrumentals that are very diverse between tracks. This is my favorite indie rock record of the year so far & it’ll only get better with time.
Pretty straightforward shoegaze album, but still a solid one. Loud & heavy instrumentals take the lead, while the dreamy vocals still hold their own contributing to the beauty of it all.
Exciting, fun, & catchy disco tracks back to back. I’ve been meaning to check out her other work, but this is the first Jessie Ware project I’ve listened to. Very excited to hear more!
One of the best indie rock records to drop this year. Its beautiful instrumentals pop, & bring life to tracks that consist of mellow vocals holding heavy lyrics. This is only going to keep growing on me.
A fun inclusion into the recent electropop scene. I’ll say it’s one of the albums this year that sounds exactly like how the album cover looks. A lot of glitchy chaos layered within the multidimensional atmosphere this album creates. reclusive wizard leaves tower & BURNMATERIAL are my favorite tracks.
I have no problem with the surfgang production & trap realm of this project. I’m personally not a huge fan of MIKE’s sound & it continues to not catch my ear well. Earl’s performance was decent, I just personally wouldn’t return to this project over both artists other work.
