Don Toliver - Love Sick

Don Toliver is a very talented artist, but continues to prove that his collaborative efforts and features are better than his solo work.

This album isn't as bad as some people are making out. I enjoyed quite a few aspects of this album, mainly the production and how Don glides over the beats, they sound really woozy and vibey for the most part. The R&B influence is very clear in Don's style, though he could do better and give a little more energy to some of the tracks. I feel Don's performance makes everything sound very similar, both in tone and feel, so you feel like you're listening to a very similar song, rather than him changing up his energy and giving us something slightly different each time.

There are some definite highs and lows, some tracks have stuck with me, and others I haven't really known how to feel about them. However, though Don could've done better, I don't think this was an abysmal effort in any sense at all. I feel like this is just good background music when you aren't wanting to focus on anything too particular, or if you're not in the mood for some really deep conscious lyrical content. I think Don stuck with a very consistent theme throughout the album, and he definitely excels at creating an atmosphere. I just think to keep the intrigue, he needs to change the pace of the album at times.

Overall, it isn't bad, there's just been a lot more releases this year that have interested me a lot more. If you're a fan of a mellow listen, this really isn't a bad effort.

Let Her Go
Leave The Club
