It's not that deep but i decided it was.
"It's Not That Deep" is clearly Demi's best album. The production is nearly perfect, the songwriting is simple yet detailed enough and effective, the songs are ultra catchy and the most important : Demi isn't miserable anymore and you can feel it throughout the album.
It's colourful but not bubbly, it's sexy and vulnerable but never tragic, it's dancey and never off tempo. Just an amazingly made album.

Clearly made to be "Get Together" 20 years younger maternal half-sister after her parents remarried. The overrall production is good, sounds kinda fresh and the song's not too long, i just don't like the production of her voice. I'm having higher hopes for Confessions II because of this song, let's hope it'll be better than the 4 albums she made before this one.

"Higher Than Heaven" is criminally unpersonal and unimaginative yet so catchy and the energy makes up for the genericness of the project. Strangely, it's never a bad listen. The Nu-Disco/Synthwave production is bombastic, bright and colourful which works well with Ellie's voice. The songwriting though isn't that amazing, she wrote better songs. But that's not the point of "Higher Than Heaven", the main goal was to create a flamboyant ... read more
"Brightest Blue" was a return to form after the pop-focused "Delirium" while still incorporating new sounds like Neo-Soul and more R&B leaning songs.
This is her "wise" album, her "lesson learned", a record made for herself... at least the side A.
The biggest flaw of this album : EG.O, a side B that had no business being included since it brings nothing to the main part and it actually drags it down. I'll never understand nor forgive Polydor for ... read more
"Delirium" is where Ellie's career shifted : she was no longer an indie artist but a popstar. However, this album was also a curse because it wasn't really HER, it lacked her essence even if her voice helped a lot to make those songs her own.
It's radiophonic to death, repetitive, made to aim the charts and the Spotify playlists, and that's what i love about this album : it's an unapologetic pocket full of mainstream colourful pop.

She really sat down with Polydor's CEO, he asked "what do you wanna make ?" and she answered with "I wanna make HERstory" and that's what this is...
This is Ellie at her most electronic, most energetic so far ! The only thing i will point out is that it feels like a total separated project than a reissue of an album. There's no continuity with "Halcyon" here in terms of sounds.

People say it's a pop bible just like a regular pop bible when there's actually Jesus infused in "Halcyon".
Iconic blend of electronic music with indie-pop to create an anthemic and atmospheric water themed album about sorrow. This is the kind of masterpieces we talk about in art schools.
One of my favourite albums of all time.

I discovered Ellie when "Starry Eyed" was released and since then, i've been an absolute fan. "Lights" is a defining album of the 2010's, it literally opened this decade.
The folktronica sound is perfectly suiting for Ellie's angelic voice and her songwriting.
The only complain that i have is that the title track was just a bonus track before being included on "Bright Lights".
How can you save a title track (and what a song btw !) as a bonus ? ... read more
This platinum edition doesn't add much to the main album, it was clearly made to link the Flawless (Remix) to the rest of self-titled. I was surprised by "Ring Off", i thought it was a cool way to discuss her parents divorce without making it dramatic, it was uplifting. The remixes of "Blow", "Standing In The Sun" and "Drunk In Love" were not necessary at all.

This deluxe edition adds nothing in particular to the main album, it actually drags it down. "Beautiful Liar" literally saves it by itself. Even if the songs are not absolue trash, they are just not interesting and didn't age well ("If" i'm looking at you).

Most of the bonus tracks on this reissue elevates the original album by creating a wider palette of sounds and rhythms. There's some missteps though like "Save The Hero" and the remix of "Ego" where Kanye just drags the song down but overrall, this is some good additions to IA...SF.

This is her "Supercut", her "We Can't Be Friends" with a production that sounds like "Tides" on her 4th album Brightest Blue.
When i heard the snippet, i thought it would be an immature Synth-Pop song but i was so wrong and i apologize to Elllie for that.
SOTY for sure !

Compared to "Brighter Days Ahead", those new songs added to the original album seem better fitted in. It gives more groove and fun to the album without being groundbreaking.

So this new addition to an already amazing album didn't do much for me to be honest. Even if the songs are objectively good, they don't elevate or add new perspective to the original work. "Dandelion" is cvnty though.

The album that didn't age well. Was it suppose to age well though ? Who knows...
"Yours Truly" is too Bubblegum-Pop to be taken seriously and not enough R&B to be appreciated 13 years later. However, at the time, at her age, Ariana delivered a very respectable record that was showcasing her vocals which introduced her the right way. It just that this album feels like it was already "made" and she just had to put her vocals on it.

"Sweetener" the (faux) healing album that you are !
In this one, Ari decided to not let saddeness take the lead and prefered to give joy and bouncing beats to the ones who needed it. Unfortunately, this record feels premature, as if she was delusional to her own happiness which created songs like the annoying title-track and the "aged like a 100yo egg" song that has the name of a... you know what ? let's not dive into this.

So in this 6th album, Ariana took the full modern R&B lane and i'm not mad about it at all, it suits her so well ! However, there is some songs that weren't spectacular or even a slightly marking to make "Positions" a flawless album. It seems more like a passion project than an album to aim the charts even if it did. Ari was horny and loving and she made everyone knows as she should.

Always loved a divorce album but this one hits hard. What i like the most about it is the wisdom she exudes from it : it's not about hating, getting revenge or playing the victim but about aknowledging that the relationship was simply made to end no matter what happened between them.
The production has a very retro feeling which marks the nostalgia and reminiscence of the marriage. Some songs are debatable but that's just a matter of taste, the rest is amazing.
