BØRNS - Dopamine
84

I can't really add much to the table here. BØRNS' voice is evocative of the hormone this album is named after. So when you pair that with crisp production, catchy hooks and good writing... you can only really cry when you find out that the artist is, well, a groomer.

[92 > 84] The title track sours an otherwise saccharine experience.

Joji - Nectar
78

Nectar definitely could've benefited from being a little shorter, but the tracks that are one here are all at the very least pleasant to listen to. Joji's singing has improved a lot compared to In Tongues and BALLADS 1 and it shows. Personal highlights for me are the singles as well as Afterthought, Mr Hollywood and Like You Do.

While the album overall works for me, I cannot deny that if it were shorter and more "lean," it would definitely be much more well-received.

Joji - SMITHEREENS
72

A few diamonds in a whole lot of rough. Glimpse of Us and Die for You are genuinely one of the most beautiful songs Joji has put out, so to see them mixed with a whole lot of mid makes me very disappointed.

[45 > 72] Given a relisten, I find that Disc 1 is quite solid. Disc 2 is where it falls off, though.

Weezer - Pinkerton
96

I must confess my sins. This album is my favorite Weezer project thus far. The switchup from Blue's clean production to a much more raw and almost guttural aesthetic is done very well here and is indicative of the sort of grunge that it coincides with. Rivers' darkness is very much on display here and it stands as a fantastic product of its time. Frankly, I wish Weezer could return to this sound.

Weezer - Weezer (Blue Album)
88

This debut is very good--so good, in fact, that Weezer was accused of being an industry plant after the album received critical acclaim. Production is clean, I love Rivers' voice I love the overall aesthetic of this album. Some highlights to me are Undone - The Sweater Song and Say It Ain't So. While Buddy Holly has soured on me over the years, especially as it has attained meme status, the album does no wrong.

Jung Kook - Seven
30

It's fun (the censored version of the song that swaps "fucking" with "loving" is infinitely better). The slurp in Latto's segment makes me uncomfortable.

Rating is for the uncensored. The censored version is a 45 in my book.

Kendrick Lamar - Not Like Us
92

Kendrick outdid Drake at his own game. Damn.

Lil Dicky - Earth
4

eco-grift the song. its only funny point is the kanye west bit and even that's stretching what it means to be funny

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
100

A timeless album ideologically, musically and vocally.

Porter Robinson - Worlds
77

Initially, this album had me floored. But as I kept coming back to the album, I feel as though its inconsistencies start to show--even moreso when I returned to this album after listening to Nurture. Overall, it's an enjoyable album but certain tracks (Flicker is a particularly sore point for me) don't feel like they belong on this album.

Porter Robinson - Nurture
94

A wholly magical and tear-elicitingly reassuring experience.
