This album ticks all, or at least most of the boxes for me as far as instrumental prog goes. Especially "Part 1" where it's just Night Verses (bar that one track with Tool's Justin Chancellor(!)), they really manage to showcase what they're all about. Which is absolutely blistering, all-out songs with rhythms tighter than an 18th century woman's corset, incredibly creative playing and songwriting and beautiful and enchanting atmospheres.

Super solid album. It's very engaging the whole way through. It really sounds like every detail has been carefully considered, while maintaining that super loose and flowy feel which gives it a very organic sound.
There's so much great variation throughout the album, musically *and* sonically: beautiful chord progressions and instrumentations that give each song a very characteristic sound, that give just about enough but makes you long for more. Super interesting production and ... read more
My feeling for this album is fairly neutral. I appreciate the atmosphere Deafhaven creates and the vocals do wphat they set out to do. Very pleasant album by the best player on the planet (in his field that is), very soothing and interesting compositions and Lage's sense of touch is second to none. I'm familiar with Lage as player but this is the first album of him I've listened to in full, and I can see some of the critiques ... read more
It's difficult to ignore George Harrison's songwriting prowess and this album has some of the best examples to showcase his incredible creativity. Some songs on this album I know I've never heard before, but they sound like the definition of "catchy" and/or "memorable" so I felt like they had already been ingrained in my musical memory. It's undeniable that Harrison's (and the Beatles in general) songwriting have laid the foundations for western pop ... read more
