You ever have an artist that middle school you swears by but you grow up and you fall outta love? Spose is mine, and curiosity got me to check out his latest project: An eclectic mix of hip hop and rock that ranges from decent to great. The beats on here are cool, I'm a big fan of the crunchy bass on "15 Years", as well as the racing, upbeat feeling of "Make It Out Alive". Spose isn't the best lyricist (and his singing on cuts like "Bottom of the Ocean" ... read more
Even if the lyricism isn't outstanding and it revolves around love & heartbreak a lot, it doesn't really matter when Sam glides on basically every song. The more soul-inspired, upbeat songs like "Baby, You Make Me Crazy" and "Midnight Train" do a good job at breaking up any monotony throughout, and slower, less crowded songs like "Palace" and "Burning" are great. Although it sits at a concise 10 tracks, it's bookended by cuts I find ... read more
This project’s alright! A succinct album loosely themed around the loss of her mother, Michelle Zauner (the woman behind Japanese Breakfast) vocally soars throughout this project. Certain pockets for flows he gets into, like on the intro “Never Know” and album “highlight” “PRBLMS” are enjoyable to listen to, and the production stands solid enough. It’s further into the project where the decency falters off. The meandering vocals that 6lack ... read more
I’m not the biggest fan of the minimalist drums and eerie synths that’s brought to the table, usually by 40, paired with the subpar lyricism from Drake. He has a nice singing voice, but a *lot* of the songs on here blend together. When it does switch up, it only manages to become decent. The guest features aren’t too standout either, with Lil Wayne somehow, someway managing to barely pick up the slack on his multiple appearances. While Trey Songz is passable enough on ... read more
