It's seemingly sacrilege to start your account with a negative review on this website, so I'll try to remedy myself by reviewing an album I adore. This version of I Lay Down My Life for You is my favourite JPEGMAFIA project and a strong contender for my favourite hip hop album of all time. My expectations for the content of this album were set low from the cover alone. I mean, the implication that Trump is some uniquely terrible figure in US politics is hilarious. Still, Vince Staples is a very talented artist, and I loved Dark Times, so I would hear him out. I was actually fairly excited to listen to this once I saw all the praise it was receiving. "@coolit My issue with this album in particular is that it echoes the sentiments put out by establishment Democrats in the US. Putting forward the idea that, "Once Trump goes away and the Democrats are in power it'll all be OK! He's the real issue." stops people from noticing the fact that the Democrats are comfortable with killing just as many brown people as the Republicans are. I don't think Vince was intentionally making establishment propaganda, no, but I hate the album because that's kind of what it ends up being, intentional or not."

"@coolit Well, for what it's worth, Trump is obviously a terrible person, just not uniquely so. Describing any political figures as uniquely evil stops us from recognising similar situations in other contexts. The reason why people have such a hard time recognising Israel's genocidal conduct is because our ideas of genocide are closely tied to WW2, an era taught to be uniquely terrible. Fascism is on the rise all around the world but people can't even tell because they're not speaking German!"
