After the triumphant “E•MO•TION” and its Side B - Carly returns again with another artistic triumph.
Who would’ve thought she would come through again with another solid artistic creation? I was seriously impressed knowing that she had created another solid and a good pop album after the previous album.
The first half, wow. Back to back serves, period.
Every track is literally strong. With some of the laid back instrumentals, not too heavy, opening it with “Julien” - it offers the subject of cliché; love.
“No Drug Like Me” sounds sexy. The passion she exuded here is very contagious. The vocal performance becomes the main attraction of this, with the instrumentation becoming the companion of the attraction - creating an almost-perfection captured in a pop song.
“Automatically In Love”...... This song’s drum work is phenomenal. I won’t say anything much about it. A perfect pop song. My favourite out of all. This is the highlight. “Party For One” is definitely a great closure. It’s the acceptance of living alone without any love life after subjecting the break-ups and coping and finally being happy to not acknowledge about the said love anymore through “Happy Not Knowing”.
Though the first half might be very, very strong - it kind of lost its strong momentum. But does it mean that the album is not good? Absolutely not. I was absolutely blown with most of these tracks. It has a similar issue with “E•MO•TION” - but I’m glad it was able to follow the standards while it doesn’t get out of style with the pop sounds.
A pleasant listen. A good album.
