The album has a synthpop/dance/indie sound and, personally, I love it. My favourite of her albums so far.
Unlike Ryder's debut album, "Heartland" has a more indie/rock vibe, with the occasional acoustic track. The album starts off strong with "Olympic 89" - a catchy tune with a nice touch of guitar in the chorus. The next few songs have a similar indie pop vibe, with the title track having an orchestral element and powerful vocals.
