It would be safe to call Small Changes a scaled-down version of KIWANUKA. The album feels like a quieter, more personal companion to its predecessor, trading grand arrangements for a smaller, more intimate sound. Most of the tracks are understated and reflective, though there are a couple of nods to the cinematic style of KIWANUKA.
As always, Kiwanuka’s songwriting is excellent, with melodies that feel heartfelt. The lyrics are thoughtful and reflective, and the production, while simpler, is still polished and effective. Small Changes doesn’t aim for the same scale as its predecessor, but it’s a warm and understated album that shows Kiwanuka’s versatility.
