Glass Animals - ZABA

ABSOLUTE PEAK. zaba is one of, if not the best, debut album i've heard in a while.
no other album even comes close to replicating the sound of this album. damp, intense, sexy instrumentals perfectly accompany odd lyrics, allowing the listener to step into the self-described "zoo" that glass animals has created for them.

oooooooohhhhh.......oooooohhhhh.
before I say anything at all: i ADORE glass animals. ive seen them perform this album in concert. that's unfortunately what it took for this album to grow on me, but even then, it's just....okay.
in order for an album to be considered "good", its sonic structure and lyrics must be strong. if one of those aspects is lacking, it is the other's job to make up for it.

really cool concept! i could definitely draw some similarities from retinal bloom and SOME burn pygmalion. very strong basslines, bit crushed drums, beautiful lyricism (ESPECIALLY idiot us), and just an overall laid-back sound. quite nice change of pace from what liz usually makes and accompanies the "cat city" comic wonderfully.
favs: idiot us, is that me, its in the mirror
least fav: mercy find me here (not bad at all, but the weakest imo)
