Interpol - Interpol

As I embarked on my Interpol pilgrimage, it always seemed to me that, given their sound, they'd have a pretty short shelf life. My fears were proven correct. Interpol, less than a decade after their debut, have managed to lose any edge that they had once had.

Three years prior to 'Interpol,' they had released the solid yet safe 'Our Love to Admire,' which had a few great tracks, but didn't break any new ground and featured weaker songwriting. Three years later, they continue their slide of uninspiring songwriting paired with some inexplicably bad mixing. The result is a mediocre piece of vaguely Interpol-esque slop.

There's not much to look forward to on this, Memory Serves and Barricade are good, but there's a general feeling of a lack of effort put into many of the tracks. This genuinely sounds like what it would sound like if Imagine Dragons tried to make 'Turn On the Bright Lights.'
