I've gotta say, I wasn't expecting a whole lot from Angles, but I am have been pleasantly surprised! This is a great album! Now, outside of the 3 big standout tracks that everyone loves, this isn't a masterwork of anything, but it's some pretty solid indie rock, with particular highlights being Two Kinds of Happiness, Taken For a Fool (duh), and Metabolism. Of course, though, the first two songs and closer are just perfect rock songs. Machu Picchu is a somewhat psychedelic opener with one of the greatest choruses in The Strokes' entire discography, Under Cover of Darkness has some amazing guitar work and lyricism, and Life Is Simple In the Moonlight ends the LP on a somewhat mellower note than what came before it, and it has an absolutely killer guitar solo. Don't really have much else to say, it's a good record that too many people have overlooked. It's more than just the highlights, even if those highlights are really, really fucking good. Give it a listen, it's well worth the half hour it commands. I wonder if skipping First Impressions of Earth was a good idea...
