It was alright for the most part. 4 absolute bangers carried this whole record for me. Everything else just felt meh-to-decent. Slightly disappointed as I went into this album expecting a lot more. Nothing bad here by any means though.
Knowing almost nothing about Leonard Cohen and listening to this album was a treat. Excited to listen to more of his work. I really appreciated the melancholic, yet hopeful and appreciative demeanor displayed throughout.
While "Trail of Flowers" is her most consistent record, the high moments soar much higher here in my opinion. I'm not as big of a fan of her ventures outside of country and bluegrass here, but a large majority of the tracks here absolutely rule.
While being somewhat familiar with this band throughout my life, this is my first time sitting down with a full Doors record. I'm not usually a huge fan of blues rock, but the quality of the material here outweighed my preconceived notions of the genre. This record started out strong for me on the first 4 tracks, then lost me pretty quick. There's just a lot here that influenced some of my least favorite aspects of indie rock/pop throughout the 21st century. The gang vocals, dramatic lyrics, and assorted instrumentation came off equally charming and grating throughout my listen. I put this one at 65 because the songs I enjoyed stuck with me.
