motörhead are one of the bands you HAVE to like as a metalhead. if you don't like them you're a poser and fuck you. we'll see how i feel when i review the rest of their discography, but i always held overkill (along with 1916) up as this band's greatest album--the title track is a top 3 motörhead tune and essential metal in general, capricorn is one of the most unique and underrated cuts of their classic era (love that smokey, almost heavy psych sound, very 70's), the stretch from tracks 6-8 is absolute unadulterated FIRE...metropolis is pretty mid but that's about it. overkill is a bit faster, a bit heavier and overall a good bit better than motörhead's debut. the developing sound of speed metal is prominent, and while i know a lot of people debate whether or not this band is technically NWOBHM, i personally consider them a NWOBHM band and think this record is one of the greatest NWOBHM records to ever be recorded ever. i also thank it for being one of the most crucial links between sabbathian trad metal and venom's extreme metal revolution, which of course led to genres i love dearly such as avant-garde blackened atmospheric dissonant techdeathcore and the like. if metal was a kingdom, lemmy's statue would stand in the palace.
