i always craved great subtlety in music and i always knew talk talk would fulfill that but was bored by them when i was younger. now i crave even more sbuteltly and this has very good subtleties. mmm.
thank you dealers gang. this one somehow reeks of friendship
i wanna play cs2 with my mates one day until its 4am and ill play thus album, and i hope when im stupid tired, much 2 think about plays
[for the first song] rare instance of art where i dont hesitate to call it the greatest piece in its medium, like how i can confidently say better call saul is the greatest show
but it did take me some days to say so
rest of the album are very playful cute orchestral music. it does get samey at times but they have epic moments.
this has very weird structure that i like. they have the penultimate song as the first. then songs 2-5 are almost one song. then the next songs are different but ... read more
i always praise dry cleaning for their clean sounding production and every record it gets cleaner and cleaner. i would say this is their weirdest album so far which i appreciate very much, also maybe their most atmospheric, though there weren't much songs that reach the highs of stumpwork (the song) or scratchyard lanyard, as did their previous album. i could call this their most beautiful though, and maybe their most emotional
it probably does contain some of their worst, though i havent ... read more
One of the most unique albums I heard. I heard a lot of mentions of weed and ball sacks. This reminds me of George clanton, slauson malone, daft punk, the avalanches, all my heroes are cornballs, brockhampton ballads, and even Can, but this dreaminess they create is entirely their own. This makes me feel a way I never felt before.
Very safe sounding shoegaze. No bad songs I would say, but the special moments are sparse. there is only really 1 standout song (paces)
good: i love how playful this sounds. its very good when its maximalist
bad: many times his voice doesn't add to the song, and sometimes even detracts
Good: Some really unique compositional decisions, some even great. Also cool unique sounds used very uniquely. A very unique album outside of
Bad: most songs containing uninteresting main riffs
good: this is like those overly punchy or melodic j pop j rock songs but somehow without the cheese, and that is a very huge advantage. awesome vocals too. and the vocal rhythms or flow!!. did not expect to tear up to vocaloid (i wish that i could fall).
bad: it still is overly punchy, which works sometimes, but it goes for too long. also the soundfont or whatever gets old. i also increasingly got less interested after the 4th song (except machine love of course)
good: so many styles done so well, vocals are so dynamic and good manee wtf. such powerful screams. and moans.
bad: overstays its welcome me thinks, and so do some of the songs. half of the wall of noise sections are unnecessary to me (excluding sludge). im also sad the piano in vitality glitch wasnt used more.
good: there a lot of compositional and mixing choices i really like, the switches are almost always rewarding. also really nice shouting voice
bad: a lot of the ep features really familiar sounding melodies that dont sound unique and sound even cheesy at times, like something that would fit in sub urban’s “cradles”
good: it's extremly good when its groovy. namely the first 10 minutes, they were kind of mindblowing. also the psych rock section in part 4 is pretty groovy and amazing. pt.2 was also very unique post-rock, I haven't heard anything like it in this genre. i also think a lot of the album is pretty unique
bad: i'd say only 15% of this album is groovy, and that i wouldn't return to the rest of the album. i think most of the album aside from those moments i mentioned are not ... read more
good:i've only listented to around 5 swans albums, but this seems to be the most ghastly, and i like that. this is also one of the most surreal. like they added a random harmonica section in the healers (which is one of the scariest swans moments), a random dog bark in i am a tower, and the random ahhhs in the merge and they add so much. really creative stuff. i also think they mastered the jumpscare in the healers and in the title track.
bad: this is the type of album thats only amazing ... read more
good: very lush instrumentation
bad: the instrumentation does sound beautiful but it does not emotionally resonate with me, even though I think it sounds like it should. i think the album would be better as an instrumental, the rapping reminds me of a theatre musical having rap segments, which i cannot seem to enjoy here
relisten 1: 45 -> 50
good: i enjoy it a bit more
bad: i think the main issue is that it's too symphonic for my own good sometimes. there are some moments where i ... read more
good: make me goes wide eyed sometimes. they seem to have more mastery over this laid-back style
bad: loses steam after the 4th song
good: good and chill and makes me dance, and surprises me sometimes. they make some unconventionally sounding melodies that are really addictive here. the strongest example is the flute in the 2nd half of immortal Hands
bad: it loses steam and I think it will grow off me, since melodie is a wound grew off me
good: incredible start, was crying during the first 4 songs
bad: it gets stale and gets more and more minimalist in a way that works against my taste
